Checking out the area

Hello!

We have been exploring the area around Bolnuevo over the last few days.  These towns seem deserted this time of year, they are all in a long siesta waiting for tourist season when every German and Brit with a suitcase finds their way to the beach.  For now we have had relaxing days.

Last Wednesday we went to the Calabardina and did a hike called Cabo Copa.  On AllTrails it said it was "medium". I have decided that the average age of AllTrails users is about 25. It started off innocently enough with the hill in front of us, the map said 705ft of elevation gain. What it did not say was that it was straight up - no switch-backs, just straight up!

Carsten and Falk before we (well, just me) lost hope.

This is the view from almost the top. We did make it to the top and it was pretty but it was a lot!

The main reason we are here in Spain in April is to celebrate Falk's 60th birthday. On Thursday evening his best present arrived.  His two lovely daughters, Pernille and Pauline arrived to celebrate with us!  Svenni of course arranged everything but the rest of us were very surprised!  What a great gift!

Friday was the birthday celebration - we had a long breakfast and then headed to Murcia.

We walked around the town and went inside the cathedral.

This flower "wall" was very near the university.

We had a lovely lunch near the cathedral and gelato for dessert before heading back to Bolnuevo.

In the evenings we have been playing all kinds of games: Carcassonne, Farlke, 36, Euchre, 3-13, Kitchen Sink, 10 & Back and Skyjo.  I found this $1.00 (0.85 Euros) box of wine that works well for a wine-spritzer.

Alguias Spain was the next town to explore.
This old fortress on the top of this hill needed a look.

Castillo de San Juan de Las Aguilas was erected in the 16th century was a defensive fortress build to warn of pirate raiders from Northern Africa.

Naturally there was a bit of a walk up to it, a combination of stairs and a long road.
The views of the bay were worth the walk.

Plaza de Espana has two of these super sized ficus trees planted in 1914.

We had Indian food for lunch followed by a long walk and finally, gelato!

Today we are messing with laundry and enjoying the sun on our terrace.  Tomorrow we drive to Granada!

Take care and GO COOGS!!!!!
