Bolnuevo & Cartagena, Spain

Hello,

I don't know how many of you celebrated English Mother's Day (EMD) last Sunday but we did! We were looking for a restaurant for a late lunch and we're having no luck. Finally there was a place, limited menu bc they had a special for EMD. We sat down and ordered some cokes, etc then looked at the special menu.  Immediately I said we should leave. Nothing looked interesting and much of it I could not identify. Of course we did not leave (why won't anyone listen to me?!?).

Worst meal ever. How do you mess up boiled potatoes? The ham was apparently left over from Thanksgiving at our house last November, wrapped loosely and shipped to Bolnuevo's famous English restaurant to serve up for Mother's Day. Do the English hate their mothers? They must.

England is not known for their food, we know this, we just lost our heads for a minute and paid the price.

Simply a public service item- do not go here:

All that disappointment aside, Bolnuevo is very nice. We are here at "low" season so there are wide open beaches and not many people around. We met up with Falk & Svenni on Saturday late and drove from Alicante to Bolnuevo.

There are some famous limestone shapes along the beach in Bolnuevo, they have been formed over millions of years by wind erosion and seem almost like modern sculptures.

Looking for the dive boat?!

We are in Spain but the house is owned by Germans.  Here we have a helpful guide to the light switches. Good grief!

Sunset is beautiful from our deck.

This sign is conveying many messages, and somehow the Illuminati is involved! LOL

Needless to say, Mr. Safety steered us away from this dangerous situation!

Today (Tuesday) we went to Cartagena (about 45 min away) to see what there was to see.
As it turns out they recently (1990-2003) discovered an ancient Roman Theatre in the town.

Built between 5 and 1 BCE, it had a capacity of 6,000 spectators and was used for Roman theatrical performances in Roman times.

This walkway header has the name of one of the grandsons of Caesar Augustus, Gaius & Lucius, to whom the theatre was dedicated.

First century stuff - incredible!
We had a bite to eat and heard that there will be a parade next Sunday.  We may go back!

Now we are back at our house in Bolnuevo to hang out and maybe play some cards.

Thanks for reading - more later!

Take care,

Sheri & Carsten
