Alicante

Hola!

We left Bolnuevo on Saturday and dropped Falk & Svenni at the airport in Alicante.  Having learned our lesson about waiting in airports for late flights; we drove our car into Alicante to see what we could see.

Santa Maria Basilica

Scenes from Santa Barbara Castle. The castle dates to the 9th century at the time of Muslim control of the Iberian Peninsula. It has seen a rich history of conquests, in 1248 the castle was taken over by Castillian forces. It was conquered by Arabs in 1296 followed by the French in 1691 and later held by the British during the war of Spanish succession (1701-1714). In 1873 it was bombarded by cantonalistas. After all this is declined in military importance, it was used as a prison by the fascists in 1939. Then it was abandoned until 1963 when it was opened to the public.

Conflict resolution is my specialty!

Walking down from the Castle through El Barrio, it was colorful and lovely.

The castle was at the top of the hill (for defensive purposes), we walked many steps and ramps to get to the top. You can see the castle on the hill here.

We had Columbian food for lunch and headed out to the airport. Our flight to Seville was on RyanAir. It was short and uneventful. We made it to our hotel by 11:30 and it was lights out!

Sunday we start to explore Sevilla!

Take care,
Sheri & Carsten
