Summer Road Trip

Hi, we decided to escape the heat and head up to Detroit to see Austin and Jamie.

We left Aug 1 headed for Nashville to hang out with my Uncle and Aunt and their family. We had a great time with them, we played plenty of games and saw a few sites.

The Country Music Hall of Fame is on Broadway in downtown Nashville.

Lots of gold and platinum records:

Elvis's famous "golden" car:

Some favorites:

Heard plenty of live music along Broadway:

Shelley took us all to Arrington Winery, live Bluegrass music and good wine.

Uncle Daniel and Aunt Dee enjoying some wine.

After a quick dinner with friends in Columbus, Ohio we arrived in Detroit.

We went to see the Motown Museum. We highly recommend it! It was incredible!

This hat and glove belonged to the King of Pop - Michael Jackson. He and his family were discovered by Barry Gordy at Motown records.

This is the original recording studio of Motown Records. Artists such as Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, MJ and the Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder and so many others recorded their hits in this place.

This candy machine has been in the building since the beginning. People would leave dimes on the top for a young boy who romed the building. He would feel the top for dimes and eagerly wait to find the treasures sweets that it dispensed. This boy? Stevie Wonder!! So awesome!

The museum is houses in these unassuming buildings right where Barry Gordy started Motown Records.  As his business grew he bought up houses up and down the block.

Together with Austin and Jamie we headed west to Holland, MI in the shores of Lake Michigan. It is an awesome little town, plenty of shops, food and gorgeous cool weather! (So nice to be out of the heat in Houston!)

Naturally we had to try New Holland brewery.

Sweet Rocco

Virtue Cider is a lovely outing.

Long walks around the town were a hit with Rocco... and us!

Benjamin Franklin is reading the Declaration of Independence. No idea why he was here....

Beautiful gardens with a Wizard of Oz theme.

We are headed to Kentucky now, listening to an audio book.  Mammoth Falls and the Kentucky Bourbon Trail are coming up!

Stay cool,
Sheri and Carsten
