Mallorca, Ibiza, Granada & Cadiz

Hello again, we moved on from Barcelona and started the exploration of the rest of Spain.

First stop was Mallorca where we had a bicycle tour of Palma. It was fun to ride along the old city wall and then into the old city with it's small streets.

Craziest thing, we are riding along and a dude in our group crashed HARD! He was, thankfully, not seriously injured!

It was a great day!

Next day was Ibiza. We went to the North side of the island to an old cave system used by smugglers in the old days. Quite a bit of walking and many stairs!

Next day the stop was Motril, Spain but the destination was Granada, Spain.  This was a nice city - plenty to see, pedestrian areas, good tapas and wine.  You can still see the influence of the ancient Moroccan culture in the architecture and foods.  We did not have tickets to Alhambra so we must plan on a long stay in Spain, to include Granada!

A few sights:
Old city streets, perfect to wander.

Just a street we wandered down - with a nice view.

Today we stopped in Cadiz, Spain which is over 3,000 years old.  Columbus sailed from Cadiz on his 2nd and 4th voyages to the Americas.  We crossed paths with Napoleon again whose armies got stuck in the salt flats and we're thus never able to capture the port of Cadiz.  Our excursion took us to Jerez for a lesson in making Tapas!  The venue was an older house (1846), now a hotel and venue.  We made a lovely cold potato dish, gazpacho, shrimp and beef-stuffed mushrooms.  In addition we tried two Sherrys and had Sangria. A good time was had by all.

Local Sherry and Brandy is the best for cooking ... and drinking!

Mixing potatoes.  The Nonna liked how I dove into the potatoes.

Along the highway there were fields of sunflowers.

We got back in time for a couple of trivia sessions - Carsten was 20/20 on Maps of the World (surprising no one)! Instead of cheap cards they are giving raffle tickets.  Maybe we will win a cruise!!!

Tomorrow is Gibraltar - Carsten is vibrating with excitement!

We will blog again when we get to Meckelfeld.

Peace,

Sheri & Carsten
