Thailand - Khao Lak & Similan Islands

 Howdy from Thailand!

We had only a couple of days in Khao Lak before boarding the MV Bavaria for a 6-day dive trip.

We did an excursion out of Khao Lak to see some islands, including James Bond Island.  It was beautiful scenery .

This was the place where The Man with the Golden Gun was filmed.  Apparently this is where the bad guy had his hideout.

This was a fun outing with several kayak rides as well.  We went through caves to get to the center of the island/lake.  The tide differential is 4 meters.  You have to enter as the tide goes out, but not too late or the interior lake will be dry.  Super cool.  The final kayaking was at dusk to see the bioluminescence plankton.  It glows in the dark.

So now, we are on the dive boat with a few days of diving already done.  The topography here is very different from Raja Ampat, more boulders - no reef walls so far. Interestingly, the boat is run by Germans and half the guests are, as well.

Here are some pictures:

A friendly turtle - Carsten was a bit concerned about the Go-Pro getting "chomped"

I call these "prisoner" fish with the black stripes...

of course, clown fish and anemone

Carsten is actually here with me - normally he has the camera!

this is a Guitarfish - it looks like a shark but is actually in the ray family.

So, i hope you enjoyed this small look at Thailand and the Similan Islands.  We are having a nice time!

Only 16 days until we are home.... LOL
