Florence! (NSFW)
Hello - I know that I am telling this story backward but the WEDDING is the most important part! I promise that after this we will revert to chronological order - don't want to stress anyone out! LOL
There are many articles about how bad air travel is post-pandemic (an easy scapegoat for everything). It is true. The 17 of us came in separate groups and of all the groups only one had smooth travels with no unreasonable delays or problems. I totally get that these are first-world problems and my memory is short but wow - it sure make the day long when you have delays.
Roro and Hilmer (Sheri's folks) traveled with us to Frankfurt where we met up with Ulf & Heike (Carsten's parents). Our flight to Florence was delayed almost two hours and we already had a long layover - I thought we were never going to leave Germany!
Funny thing, for Hilmer we had arranged wheelchairs because he walks a little slow. The airport in Frankfurt is built crazy such that when you board you have to descend three flights of stairs to get on a bus that drives you out to the plane - then you climb stairs to board. To help the grandparents avoid the stairs they are taken a different route in a weird "bus" that basically scissor-lifts them up level with the plane and loads them like the catering truck loads the food/drinks.
Anyway, we finally made it into Florence and had a one night stay and a morning to see Michelangelo's David and the Duomo.
