Kailua-Kona

Aloha!

We have had a nice couple of days in the Kailua-Kona area.

Yesterday morning we did a hike that started at a National Historic Site.  It started out winding through a huge lava field and looped past a wonderful beach with a tidal area where green turtles hung out. We also saw several beautiful birds along the way.

After that 4+ mile hike we found a shady spot to have lunch by the sea and ended up at the Kona Brewery for a quick drink.

After going back to our place we wandered down to the pool (situated right on the water).  The waves were pounding the shore ... and some of the closer condos!

Needless to say, our snorkel trip was cancelled.  We rescheduled for Friday (today) - fingers crossed!

Today we wanted some beach time so we went back to the beach near the turtles - this time we took the short route (no 4 milers today).  We just relaxed and read a bit, it was super nice.

Time for our daily picnic lunch and off to another beach where there was shade, some cool tidal pools and high surf action.

Tonight we are supposed to snorkel and see the Manta Rays - hope the sea "sits down" so we can have a good outing!

Aloha,

Sheri & Carsten
