Hello! We have covered a lot of ground since our last post. We left Green Bay and headed to Boscobel to see Kevin and Colleen Baker and their girls - we had such a nice visit with them. They have a lovely house with a garden - our salad came right our of their "salad bar" garden! Such a great family!
Next stop Alexandria, MN - we drove a little out of the way to have breakfast in Iowa since Sheri had not been there. We visited with Alex and Mark Mabee - and Joni! She was there visiting Alex - such good timing.
After church on Sunday we took a little tour around with Joni - this is Big Ole -
Our plan was to rent bikes and see the lakes, etc. - the weather forecast said the winds would be +23mph. Nope. Instead we ended up at Carlos Creek Winery - it was windy there but we had wine!
This bridge is in Duluth, MN - instead of a drawbridge it raises up like an elevator so that the boats/ships can pass safely underneath.

Next stop Grand Marais, MN - This small town is way up on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Basically you go to Duluth, MN and then drive 2 hours more along the lake. We are staying at a Best Western right on the lake. Here is a picture from our balcony -
It is incredibly beautiful here and, as you can see, the weather is great!
We had a walk around town after dinner last night - some sights:
Today (6/8) we went canoeing the Boundary Waters at Gun Flint Lodge. We had booked a 5 hour trip with a guide. There was one other couple along as well. They were on their honeymoon - they had married last year during Covid - but just celebrated again with a party, etc. They were very nice.
The weather forecast was not favorable for our canoe outing but, of course, the weather app had no idea what was going to actually happen. We had a wonderful day! We saw a moose but were not able to get a picture before he ran off.
One sort of unexpected part of this trip was that we had to "port" the canoe 4 times. This basically meant that we took it out of the water, turned it upside down and Carsten carried it to the next put-in on his shoulders. The canoe weighs about 80 pounds.... obviously I (Sheri) was no help. Carsten was a star!
These pictures give you a small idea of how beautiful this was....
Back at Grand Marais for another walk after dinner.
Tomorrow we have a hike planned along with some other sights.
I hope you enjoyed this small view of the beauty of the Boundary Waters and Lake Superior.
