Houston - Rockwall - Rogers - Lebanon - St. Louis

 Hi!

We are off to a great start!  We are blessed to have many friends in cool places .... and we are stopping in to say "hi" along the way!

First stop - Rockwall, TX to visit our dear friends (and former neighbors) Robert & Julie.  We had a great time hanging out and even enjoyed a Def Leppard tribute band concert on the lake.

Next stop Rogers, AK to see a "flop house" alumni - Cam and her husband Isidro - it was so great to see them in their lovely house.  Cam cooked a wonderful dinner and then we went out for some ice cream!  Farmers Market and breakfast in the morning and we were on our way!

My cousins Butch and Justin live about 3 hours away from us near Goliad, TX but we drove all the way to Lebanon, MO to catch up with them at a PowWow!.  Justin is in Indian regalia - he danced with the local tribe at the event!  Super fun to catch up to them!

Finally - we made it to St. Louis in time for church Saturday night.  Pastor Steve Cauley used to be at Advent (10 yrs ago).  He, Karen and their daughters are now at Living Lord Lutheran in Lake St. Louis.  We enjoyed worship, then went back to their house.  We had a nice dinner with the whole family!

We are happy to get to see so many friends and family along the way!

Today we finally turned into tourists - St. Louis is a great town.  The weather was perfect for walking around the town (step total 14,277).

Some sights:

Old Courthouse, completed in 1828, was the sight of the famous Dred Scott Supreme Court case that was a catalyst in the War Between the States.

Sculpture Park - a lovely park in downtown STL - of course the yard guys were there with their leaf blowers - they find me wherever I go - argh!

Inside STL Union Station - once the busiest train station in the world, handling 100,000 passengers a day, it is now a hotel.  Very beautiful architecture.

Iconic shot of the Arch and Courthouse with the Running Man statue.

We were unable to go up the Arch - we looked for tickets weeks ago but it was sold out.  We went into the Museum under the arch (underground).  It was a fantastic museum! We reviewed much of the history of the United States' expansion to the West.

We also learned some facts about the arch:
 - It was completed in 1965.
 - At 630 ft, the arch is the tallest man-made monument in the US.
 - The arch is 630 ft tall and 630ft from the South "foot" to the North.
 - The arch is built out of sections, each section is an equilateral triangle.

Basilica of Saint. Louis, formerly the Cathedral of Saint Louis - a/k/a "Old Cathedral", was the first cathedral west of the Mississippi River.

That's it for today.  Tomorrow we head to Chicago!

Take care and have a wonderful Memorial Day -

Sheri & Carsten
