Impressions of South Dakota

Hi!

We decided on Sunday that we were ready to leave.  We were both a bit concerned about the long day of driving we had planned for Monday.  So, 2 hours after we decided, we left Houston!

We made it to Ardmore, OK and found a Hampton Inn.  Funny, we had originally planned to stay in Denton but there was NO vacancy!  So, we kept going.

The decision to leave Sun was the right one because the next day we made it to North Platt, NE which was farther than we had planned!

On Monday we left North Platt and made it to Keystone, SD (a couple miles from Mount Rushmore) via the Badlands.  We would have been so tired had we done that all in 1.5 days instead of 2.5!

Monday afternoon we went to the Badlands in South Dakota.  That was amazing!  We hiked the Notch Trail which showed beautiful vistas of the Badlands and details of the minerals and layers in the rock formations.

The Green minerals ran up and down the rock formations, while the formations themselves were varying colors stacked.

So..... here we are in Keystone after a nice dinner of Bison burger and Bison steak.

Today we saw Mount Rushmore, Black Hills National Forest and Custer State Park. We did a hike called Lovers' Leap (4 miles - 12,000 steps!)

a cute guy i met in the Badlands ... or at UT.... whatever, i think i'll keep kissing him!
Mount Rushmore ... note, there is NO room for Trump!
Sheri in the Badlands ... this was such a cool place!
so, we were not expecting snow in September ... we did not bring the right clothes ... but we managed!  It was beautiful! This was on a scenic road into Custer SP.  Lots of switch-backs and narrow, one-lane tunnels.

Tomorrow we will drive thru North Dakota to Billings, MT (because, even though ND is out of the way... we want to hit all 50 states and there is no other good reason to go to N.D.) LOL

Take care ... we will post more once we are at Glacier NP.
